RCN is seeking an experienced IBM Z Systems Engineer to support the modernization of their Defense Information Systems Agency's mainframe environments. The role involves implementing z/OS, Linux on Z, and containerized systems within a modernized on-premises infrastructure, ensuring operational continuity, performance parity, and security compliance. This involves setup, software integration, workload migration, and system migration.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in mainframe systems engineering
- Expertise in z/OS installation, JES2/JES3, VTAM/TCP-IP
- LPAR and IOCP/HCD configuration
- Storage and network management (e.g., DFSMS, OSA adapters)
- Proven track record of system software migration, sysplex configuration, and performance tuning
- Familiarity with Infrastructure and Configuration as Code, STIG compliance
- Understanding of DevSecOps pipelines and application modernization in z/OS or z/Linux
- Active DoD Secret clearance
- Bachelor's degree (preferred)
- IAT-II certification (Security+, CySA+, CCNA, GIAC, SSCP) (preferred)
- IBM certifications in System Z, z/OS Administration (preferred)
- Scripting proficiency in CLIST or REXX, JCL automation (preferred)
- Experience with enterprise tools: ServiceNow, Splunk, Tivoli (preferred)
