Intermediate SQL Server Database Administrator

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) is seeking an Intermediate SQL Server Database Administrator to support and maintain on-prem and cloud Microsoft SQL Server databases across multiple environments, ensuring stability, performance, and security. The role involves collaborating with senior DBAs and other IT professionals to troubleshoot and maintain databases, as well as participating in incident response and capacity planning.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server administration (2016 and newer)
• Proficiency with backup/restore strategies and recovery models
• Hands-on experience with performance troubleshooting using DMVs, execution plans, and indexing
• Familiarity with HA/DR technologies: Always On Availability Groups, replication, or log shipping
• Understanding of SQL Server security and compliance best practices
• Working knowledge of T-SQL scripting for automation and troubleshooting
• Exposure to monitoring tools (native or third-party such as SentinelOne, Redgate, SolarWinds DPA)
• Experience in incident and change management processes (e.g., ServiceNow)
• Commvault: Administer SQL Server backups in Commvault, manage schedules (full/diff/t-log), perform verified point-in-time restores, and maintain documented runbooks
• Experience with cloud-hosted SQL Server (Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance)
• Familiarity with PowerShell or automation scripts for DBA tasks is an asset
• Exposure to DevOps practices (source control, CI/CD pipelines for database changes) is an asset
