Intermediate SQL Server Database Administrator

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) is seeking an Intermediate SQL Server Database Administrator to support and maintain on-prem and cloud Microsoft SQL Server databases across multiple environments. The successful candidate will work alongside senior DBAs and other IT professionals, assisting with day-to-day operations, troubleshooting, and proactive maintenance.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server administration (2016 and newer)
• Proficiency with backup/restore strategies and recovery models
• Hands-on experience with performance troubleshooting using DMVs, execution plans, and indexing
• Familiarity with HA/DR technologies: Always On Availability Groups, replication, or log shipping
• Understanding of SQL Server security and compliance best practices
• Working knowledge of T-SQL scripting for automation and troubleshooting
• Exposure to monitoring tools (native or third-party such as SentinelOne, Redgate, SolarWinds DPA)
• Experience in incident and change management processes (e.g., ServiceNow)
• Commvault: Administer SQL Server backups in Commvault, manage schedules (full/diff/t-log), perform verified point-in-time restores, and maintain documented runbooks
• Experience with cloud-hosted SQL Server (Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance)
• Familiarity with PowerShell or automation scripts for DBA tasks is an asset
• Exposure to DevOps practices (source control, CI/CD pipelines for database changes) is an asset
