Principal Software Engineer, Group Lead (HHS)

Skylight is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join their team, focusing on modernizing systems for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The role involves guiding engineering practices, mentoring technical leads, and ensuring compliance and security. The company aims to leverage government services to deliver better public outcomes, particularly in healthcare. This is a full-time, exempt position.

Requirements

• Experience leading engineering teams delivering complex systems at enterprise scale
• Hands-on skills in modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code, and observability
• Deep knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, Salesforce, ServiceNow, or similar)
• Clear communication skills with both executives and cross-functional teams
• Ability to mentor engineers and provide architectural direction
• Ability to work effectively in a professional services environment
