Staff Database Administrator

ServiceNow is seeking a Staff Database Engineer to support, optimize, and scale their database-backed services. This role focuses on ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability across customer-facing platforms and internal systems, primarily with MariaDB and PostgreSQL. The engineer will work collaboratively with product and engineering teams to design scalable data architectures and service integrations.

Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience with MariaDB and PostgreSQL in production environments
• Strong understanding of database internals, indexing strategies, replication, and failover mechanisms
• Proficiency in SQL performance tuning and query optimization
• Experience with backup/restore strategies, disaster recovery planning, and data migration
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, pg_stat_statements)
• Fluent in German and English (written and verbal)
